About the event
safeTALK is a half-day (3-3.5 hour) alertness training that prepares anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience or training, to become a suicide-alert helper. Most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with the pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting them with life-saving intervention resources, such as caregivers trained in ASIST. Certification included. The safeTALK workshop was designed by Living Works, international leaders in suicide prevention programs. https://wellness.mcmaster.ca/program/safetalk/
The BHSS and SASS have come together to provide a collaborative event for you. It will happen on Tuesday, March 10th, 2020 from 5:30 PM - 9:00 PM (location TBD). This session will be facilitated by Zeinab Khawaja, a BHSc alum, who has vast experience with the safeTALK sessions. A total of 30 attendees are allowed at this event (15 Health Sciences students and 15 Arts and Science students). After a few days, we will remove the program quota for registration. Please use the Eventbrite link in the event details to register.
If you have any questions about this event, please email the BHSS Chair (bhsschr@mcmaster.ca) or SRA Arts & Science (sraartsci@msu.mcmaster.ca).
